Israel‘s nanotechnology company StoreDot has unveiled an epoch-making "ultra fast charging" electric car battery that will charge in just 5 minutes and support 300 miles (about 483 kilometers) of the car.
At the recent Berlin global start-ups show, StoreDot demonstrated the concept of the technology, a radical improvement in the structure of conventional lithium-ion batteries". It is reported that FlashBattery ("flash rechargeable" battery) fused multilayer nano materials and organic compounds, will greatly reduce the time required for charging.
StoreDot said the technology breaks the limitations of traditional graphite lithium-ion batteries and is safer than lithium batteries because it is nonflammable and has higher combustion temperatures. The technology is now at an advanced stage of research and development and will enter the market within three years, changing the way electric vehicles are charged, the company said.
"Fast charging is the key to accelerating the popularity of electric cars," said Dr. DoronMyersdorf, co-founder and CEO of StoreDot. Currently available battery technology requires a longer charge time, which makes electric vehicles unable to meet the public demand. We are working with several strategic partners in the automotive field to help us expedite the production process in Asia and achieve mass production as soon as possible."
